The need for social workers is growing rapidly in Kentucky. In fact, social work is one of the top 20 most needed professions in the state. As more children enter the foster care system, especially due to the opioid epidemic, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 6% growth for child and family social workers through 2024.

The Kentucky Strengthening Ties and Empowering Parents (KSTEP) Program

KSTEP is an evidence-informed program targeted at families involved in the child welfare system. KSTEP follows an in-home service model, which has proven effectiveness by eliminating barriers associated with traditional office settings (click here to learn more about this type of treatment). KSTEP is intended to increase case coordination services and partnerships with the family and allow for rapid access to clinical services, such as substance use treatment.

KVC Kentucky has been selected to pilot this program in various regions throughout the state. As a result, KSTEP will increase staff by 200% out of the KVC Morehead office. This expansion will deliver services to 120 additional families in Montgomery, Bath and Fleming Counties beginning February 2019.

Outside of the KSTEP program, there will also be a 25% expansion of staff across all the regions KVC Kentucky currently provides family preservation and reunification services in (Bluegrass Fayette, Bluegrass Rural, Big Sandy, FIVCO, Gateway Buffalo Trace, Kentucky River, Northern Bluegrass and KIPDA Rural regions).

More About KSTEP

  • Referrals to KSTEP will be received from the Department of Community Based Services (DCBS).
