“I always thought at 60 years old I’d be walking out on my driveway and get into my Corvette. Well, instead I’m getting into a 15-passenger van!”

– Duane DeGravelles, KVC foster parent

Foster parenting is one of the most life-changing experiences one can have. Youth who are in foster care are there by no fault of their own and depend on temporary, loving homes to care for them while their parents work towards reunifying with them.

After talking to numerous foster parents, we found that being an empty nester has been one of the most common motivators to become a foster parent. In this video, KVC foster parent Duane DeGravelles recounts how he and his wife were excited to have their home to themselves when their youngest moved out. But after a while they felt that something was missing in their lives. After learning about the amount of children and teens in foster care, they decided to enrich their lives by becoming foster parents and now couldn’t be happier!

Not only is fostering one of the best ways you can give back to your community, but it gives you the opportunity to make a real difference in the life of a child or teen who has experienced trauma and abuse. By becoming a foster parent, you will help youth succeed in ways they may have never though possible.

We are constantly recruiting and training foster parents from all walks of life in order to make sure each child who has to enter foster care has a loving home to stay in while their parents work towards reunification.
