KVC Kentucky’s Family First Preservation & Reunification Services are designed to strengthen families and keep children safely at home. In cases where children have been removed to residential treatment settings, we help reunify them with their families. These services are rooted in evidence-based prevention practices and reflect our commitment to keeping families together whenever possible.
Our Services
Homebuilders
This is an intensive crisis intervention program. It’s designed for families at imminent risk of having children placed in out-of-home care. Families receive 8–10 service hours per week over a 4–6 week period.
Functional Family Therapy (FFT)
FFT is a family-based intervention for youth ages 11–18. It helps reduce problem behaviors and improve social skills and family functioning. The program typically includes 12–14 therapy sessions.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
This structured program helps parents of children ages 2–7. It teaches play therapy techniques and behavior management strategies. These tools reinforce positive behaviors in young children.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
TF-CBT supports children and youth ages 3–18 who are experiencing PTSD or trauma-related symptoms. Therapy is delivered over 8–25 sessions, depending on the child’s needs.
Motivational Interviewing (MI)
MI is a client-centered approach that helps increase motivation for behavior change. It is available for both children and adults, from ages 0–18.
Reunification Services
These services help children return from out-of-home care and reduce the risk of future re-entry into the system.
KONNECT Families
Using the Safe & Connected™ model, this program delivers non-clinical interventions and hands-on skills training. It helps families at risk of out-of-home placement build stronger, safer homes.
